Skincare for oily acne-prone skin is essential in reducing breakouts and treating the problem at the cause.  A common cause of oily skin is excess sebum produced by sebaceous glands. In turn, this can lead to breakouts, blackheads, and pimples. At millies.mom, there is an extensive range of products and skincare sets for oily skin available, both to reduce breakouts and to treat the problems at the root. Incorporate products from Glycolic acid to retinol into your skincare routine for an oily skincare solution.

Here at Millie.ie, there is a product for every stage of the skincare routine as well as products to tackle specific oily skincare targetted issues such as breakouts and shiny skin. Our bestsellers are a group of products that our customers love and can often be a great place to start your skincare routine journey.

Cleansers & Face Wash for the Skin Barrier

Skincare products such as cleansers are essential for maintaining healthy skin. As the first step of skincare, cleansing is crucial to the effectiveness of your subsequent skincare steps. To treat oily skin problems and control excess sebum, the best cleanser must help control excess sebum. If you have oily/ combination skin and need to remove make-up, YonKa Gel Nettoyant cleansing gel is the perfect solution. For a product with an active pre-biotic and nutrient-full super greens, we recommend Elemis Superfood facial wash to leave your skin glowing and feeling fresh. As we know, some customers have sensitive skin that can react to fragrances and chemicals- try the Neostrata Clarity Mandelic Clarifying Cleanser which is a soap-free foaming cleanser formulated with salicylic acids that are known for improving the skin feeling of sensitive skin.

Exfoliators & Face Scrubs to Remove Dead Skin Cells

Exfoliators for oily skin remove dead skin cells and give your skin a soothing texture by removing dead skin cells. Your skin will be better managed if you use the right exfoliator to keep oil production under control. With a number of brands supplying exfoliators, Millie.ie has chosen to work with a small number that a dermatologist would recommend specifically for oily skin to make our customer's decision easier. Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash is created to be suitable for all skin types and gently washes away dead skin cells to leave skin deeply moisturised and leave a smooth complexion. For customers with sensitive skin, both SkinCeutical Gycolic 10 Renew Overnight cream and Neostrata Claity Madelic Clarifying Cleanser are soap-free and free of dyes and fragrances to provide the right products for the skin. For a triple-action exfoliator that purifies, polishes and invigorates all skin types, YonKa Guarana Scrub uses plant extracts in the micro-beads to cleanse and unclog the pores of matte, dry skin.

Face Masks, Clay Masks & Scrub Masks

Oily, acneic skin types should opt for clay masks - but the combination and dry skin types may benefit from other options. Consider charcoal to absorb sebum, probiotics to rebalance an overly stressed skin barrier, and Centella Asiatica to calm inflammation and redness for acne-prone oily skin. For skin that needs hydration, Ren EverCalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask developed to fight sensitivity, helps to strengthen the protective moisture barrier and reduces blemishes on the skin surface. ESPA Clean & Green Detox Mask made with omega and Kaolin helps to detox the skin and improve the overall complexion on the skin whilst also making it look healthier and brighter.  For those with sensitive skin, the Avène Cleanance Mask exfoliates pores to reduce the look of impurities by mattifying, deeply cleansing and absorbing excess oils on the skin.

Moisturisers & Lotions for Oil Control

The shiny T-zone and acne breakouts that accompany oily skin may be familiar to people who have oily skin. Even if you have excess oil, adding a moisturizer to your skincare routine makes sense - even if it seems counterintuitive. Acne and breakout products may actually strip the skin of necessary oils if you use them frequently. The face will overcompensate by producing more oil, causing it to become dry and irritated. Millie.ie recommends two skincare brands that are ideal for oil control moisturisers for a variety of skin types. Caudalie Vinopure Blemish Control Mattifying Fluid is oil-free to control excess sebum to prepare the skin for the make-up application while the Vinopure Mattifying Fluid is a blend of rapeseed polyphenol to prevent breakouts and leave skin hydrated.  YonKa Phyto 58 PNG on the other hand is a night moisturiser that is used to reduce signs of tiredness on the skin and brightens the skin texture while YonKa Pamplemousse PNG with citrus extracts revitalises the skin with citrus extract and aromas that boost your mood.

Toning & Anti-aging Serums

Although serums are often thought of as hydrating and plumping products that cater to dry and dehydrated skin types, they can also help oily, acne-prone skin. By balancing oil production or hydrating the skin without leaving it greasy, serums for oily skin can make combination or blemish-prone skin easier to manage and prep the skin for makeup. The Inkey List Retinol Serum with retinol (a derivative of vitamin A) targets signs of ageing to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without irritating the skin or causing breakouts. Elemis Dynaimc Resurfacing Serum also helps tackle the appearance of fine lines on the skin but this time with a non-abrasive peeling action to bring back the skin's glow and prepare the skin before adding toner or sunscreen.

Sometimes a product with added oily skin dedicated products is required within a serum. Both the Elemis Superfood Facial Oil, with anti-oxidant and omega-rich nutrients, and Neostrata Glycolic Renewal Serum, with 10% Alpha Hydroxy Acid, feed the skin to create a healthy glow. The Neostrata Glycolic Serum maintains the skin's optimal pH to renew the appearance of the texture of the skin whilst the Elemis Superfood Oil deeply nourishes and hydrates with its plant-based superfoods.

FAQs

Is oily skin common?

Everybody’s skin produces oil -it’s actually a very common skin condition, affecting both men and women. The oily skin that begins to appear during puberty affects 75% of young people between the ages of 15 and 20. It is possible for some people to develop oily skin up until the age of 60.

Does oily skin reduce wrinkles?

Due to the presence of additional sebaceous glands, those who have an oilier complexion may have fewer forehead lines because their dermis is thicker. Collagen loss, fluctuating hormones, oxidative stress, glycation, sun exposure, and lifestyle habits however tend to make lines appear more prominent on the lower half of the face.

Is my skin oily because it is dehydrated?

There are different types of dehydrated skin, including oily, combination, and normal skin types that lack water and feel tight. Dehydrated skin lacks moisture, but may still produce oil. Since dehydrated skin lacks moisture, it may produce excess oil to compensate, which is why dehydrated skin can be mistaken for oily skin.

Will oily skin stop with age?

Breakouts may never stop for people with oily skin as they age. Despite this, oily skin has a benefit: Oil keeps skin moist and smoother, which reduces wrinkles. Preventing wrinkles by using a moisturiser is one way to lower their impact.
